Caring and competent treatment of ear, nose and throat problems in children

Do you have a child who has earaches or is bothered by other diseases in the ear, nose and throat area?

Then your child can be treated with us and children are often covered by their parents' health insurance!

We don't just examine and treat adults - we also have a lot of experience treating children for diseases related to the ears, throat and/or nose - and unlike most other private hospitals, we can also operate on children under 2 years of age.

If you have any questions about our treatment, service, staff, etc., please feel free to contact us.

At Charlottenlund Private Hospital you won't have to wait.

GREAT EXPERIENCE IN TREATMENT AND SURGERY OF CHILDREN

Every year, we treat a large number of children with ear, nose and throat (ENT) problems – including ear drains to relieve chronic otitis media, surgery for enlarged tonsils and polyps to achieve better sleep, and surgery for a short tongue tie to solve breastfeeding problems.

Anaesthetizing and operating on small, medium and large children requires special expertise, and therefore only a few private hospitals nationwide can offer this. At Charlottenlund Private Hospital, we have both anesthesiologists and anesthesia nurses with many years of experience in anaesthetizing small and large children. Our specialist doctors are also skilled in treating children.

We treat a very large number of children with ENT disorders, which naturally means that we have a lot of experience in this particular area. You can therefore safely choose us as your therapist.

Various ear, nose and throat treatments

Below you can read more about some of the ear, nose and throat treatments we offer for children. We also offer specialized treatments if your child does not suffer from a common ENT condition.

A safe experience

We meet you and your child with care, respect, friendliness and clear communication. Based on these values, we strive to create a safe and comfortable experience for your child despite the insecurity that unfamiliar surroundings, new faces and pain/discomfort can cause.

Our doctors have treated many children over the years and are good at meeting them on their level, so they feel comfortable with the doctor. If your child is old enough to understand their illness, our doctors are also happy to help explain what is wrong – in a language they understand.

EAR PAIN

Earaches can cause restless nights for both the child, parents and any siblings. In connection with a cold, the Eustachian tube can become blocked, which creates negative pressure in the middle ear and causes fluid to build up. This can be painful for the child, but the pain can be relieved by placing a drain in the eardrum if the condition does not improve on its own over a period of time. The drain creates a small drain into the middle ear, which must remain in place until it falls out on its own. Draining the eardrum is an operation that we have a lot of experience in performing. The operation is short-lived, and the child experiences a rapid recovery.

PARTIAL REMOVAL OF TONSILS

Some children have such large tonsils that they experience problems at night in the form of restless sleep and sleep apnea (pauses in breathing). Since poor sleep can be closely linked to poor well-being, there is good reason to have your child's tonsils examined if he or she is sleeping poorly.

If your child has large tonsils, your doctor may consider a partial tonsillectomy, as it is a significantly smaller procedure than a total tonsillectomy. This means that the surgery can be performed on children as young as two years old.

CHILDREN'S POLYPS

Pediatric polyps are lymphoid tissue in the nasopharynx that grow from birth until the age of 5-7. If the polyps are enlarged, they can contribute to fluid accumulating in the middle ear. They can also prevent the child from breathing properly through the nose, which can lead to snoring, eating problems and improper growth of the facial bones. Pediatric polyps are removed by surgery in children over the age of two.

SHORT TONGUAGE

In cases of severe difficulty breastfeeding, the child should be examined to see if their tongue-tie is too short. We always recommend that parents start with a lactation consultant or osteopath with special training and an interest in breastfeeding. If it turns out that treatment for a tight tongue-tie is needed, this can be treated with a very simple procedure.

We have no waiting time for tongue-tie clipping as we know how critical it can be when breastfeeding goes wrong in the first days to weeks.

At Charlottenlund Private Hospital we only accept children who are referred by a breastfeeding counselor or osteopath or occupational therapist. We do not perform the assessment ourselves, but perform the procedure if we find that the tongue tie is tight and can explain the discomfort you are experiencing.

All specialists who perform the procedure have both attended continuing education courses and follow the Danish Society for Head and Neck Surgery (DSOHH) guidelines as well as the National Clinical Guidelines (NKR), which you can read more about here.

After the procedure, the mother will be offered a quiet and sheltered place to sit with the child and try to breastfeed the child. In this way, both mother and child immediately experience that the procedure is over and in many cases the experience will already be quite different.
