How do you become a patient?

There are three ways to become a patient at Charlottenlund Private Hospital: through your private health insurance, as a self-paying patient, or via Denmark's Extended Free Hospital Choice scheme. Choose the option that best suits your circumstances.

Private Health Insurance

If you have private health insurance through your employer or an individual policy, it will often cover both your initial consultation and treatment. Most insurance providers require either a referral from your GP or prior authorization before treatment can begin. Please check the terms of your policy before booking your appointment.

Self-Paying Patients

If you are paying for your own treatment, you do not need a referral and can book an appointment directly online. An initial consultation with a specialist costs between DKK 2,400 and DKK 5,000, depending on the specialty and the scope of the consultation. If further treatment is required, the cost will always be discussed and agreed with you in advance. Please see our Price List for more information.

Denmark's Extended Free Hospital Choice Scheme

If the waiting time for assessment or treatment in the public healthcare system exceeds 30 days, you may be entitled to receive treatment at a private hospital. Referrals are made through the public healthcare system, and your regional Patient Office can advise you on your rights and available options.
