Before your anaesthetic, you will receive medication designed to reduce the risk of nausea and help you wake up as comfortably as possible.

Recovery After Anaesthesia
Following your procedure, you will be transferred to our recovery unit, where a specially trained recovery nurse will closely monitor you until you are fully awake and stable.
Most patients experience only mild tiredness or minor discomfort after general anaesthesia. Our team provides effective pain management and attentive care to ensure you have the best possible start to your recovery.
It is common not to remember much immediately after waking up. Once you are fully alert, your surgeon will meet with you to explain the outcome of your procedure and provide both verbal and written information about your recovery and aftercare.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it dangerous to go under general anaesthesia?
For healthy individuals without serious underlying medical conditions, the risk associated with a planned (elective) operation under general anaesthesia is extremely low. Throughout your procedure, you will be continuously monitored by both an anaesthesiologist and an anaesthesia nurse, who closely observe your heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels, blood pressure, and the administration of your anaesthetic and pain medication.
How much pain do you have when you wake up?
Most people actually experience more pleasure than discomfort after surgery - and the vast majority report having slept better than ever!
Some patients complain of mild discomfort or soreness. Quite a few will experience nausea, but this is extremely rare.
You will always be given pain medication both during and after the surgery so that you wake up as comfortably as possible.
Most patients can go home a few hours after the surgery is over and no one is discharged until they are ready for this and we consider it appropriate.
Can you wake up during the operation?
It is extremely rare. Modern monitoring and anaesthetics make the risk very low – well under 1 in 10,000 patients.
The anaesthesiologist constantly monitors you and continuously adjusts the dosage so that you sleep safely throughout the operation.
