Ear, nose and throat specialist: examination and treatment by a specialist -clinics across Denmark

When symptoms affecting your ears, nose or throat persist, return or affect your everyday life. Some symptoms should be examined without delay: according to the Danish Health Authority’s current cancer patient pathways, this includes hoarseness lasting more than two weeks without an obvious explanation in people over 40, mouth sores that do not heal, and one-sided nasal congestion or bleeding. A newly appearing lump in the neck, as well as tinnitus or hearing loss in only one ear, should also be assessed. The cause is usually harmless—but an examination is what determines this.

If you are paying privately, you do not need a referral. If you are using private health insurance, the insurer will usually require a referral from your GP or prior authorisation—please check before booking. If you have been referred through the public healthcare system and the waiting time is over 30 days, you may be entitled to treatment under the extended free choice of hospital scheme. The hospital’s agreement with the public healthcare system for patients referred from the Capital Region of Denmark applies to treatment in Charlottenlund.

An initial consultation costs DKK 2,400–5,000 for private patients, depending on its scope. The cost of any treatment or surgery will be agreed with you in advance—see the price list. Health insurance often covers both examinations and treatment.

Very common. According to Ugeskrift for Læger, around 770,000 Danes—one in six adults—have tinnitus, and chronic sinusitis (chronic rhinosinusitis) affects 8% of the population. Allergic rhinitis (allergic rhinoconjunctivitis) is estimated to affect 10–30%, and loose ear crystals (BPPV) are the most common cause of dizziness.

Outpatient care, with no hospital admission, usually taking less than an hour. The specialist reviews your symptoms and examines your ears, nose and throat using an endoscope, a hearing test and, if needed, ultrasound – tailored to your concerns.
