In most cases, treatment is provided as a home-based treatment program, coordinated by our experienced nursing team. Throughout your treatment, you will be in close contact with a dedicated nurse who will guide and support you every step of the way.
About Allergy Immunotherapy (SLIT)
Allergy Immunotherapy – No Injections Required
Today, many allergies are treated using Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT), a needle-free form of allergy immunotherapy.
Allergy Immunotherapy with Tablets (Sublingual)
SLIT tablets are currently available for the treatment of allergies caused by birch pollen, grass pollen, and house dust mites.
The tablet (orodispersible tablet) is placed under the tongue and must be taken once daily for three years. It is very important to take the tablet every day as prescribed.
The first tablet must always be taken at our clinic.
The most common side effects are mild local reactions in the mouth, such as itching, irritation, or slight swelling. These symptoms are usually temporary and resolve on their own. In rare cases, the first dose may cause more severe swelling of the mouth or throat that requires immediate medical treatment. For this reason, your first dose is always administered under medical supervision at our clinic.
Your Treatment Journey
Once we have identified the allergens responsible for your symptoms, treatment with SLIT tablets can begin. This treatment is known as Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT).
The goal of allergy immunotherapy is to reduce your allergic symptoms, improve your quality of life, and decrease your need for allergy medication over time.
We do not start allergy immunotherapy during the pollen season or if you are pregnant.
Purchasing Your Medication
Once we have agreed on the most appropriate treatment plan and the start date, we will issue a prescription. You will need to purchase the medication yourself and bring it with you when you attend your first treatment appointment.
To ensure that you tolerate the treatment well, we usually prescribe a starter pack before issuing prescriptions for larger quantities of medication.
The treatment costs approximately DKK 10,000 per year. The Danish public healthcare system currently subsidises around DKK 7,000 of this amount, meaning you only pay the remaining balance.
The effectiveness of the treatment is evaluated after the first year (or after the first pollen season, depending on the allergen). Treatment will be discontinued if unacceptable side effects occur or if there is no clinically meaningful benefit.
