Private pediatrician
When a child is unwell, parents naturally want clear answers and specialist guidance as quickly as possible. At Charlottenlund Privathospital, we provide comprehensive pediatric care and specialized treatments across multiple medical disciplines—including general pediatrics, allergy management, ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care, dermatology, and child psychology.
This fully integrated approach ensures your child can be comprehensively evaluated within a single, reassuring environment, sparing you the stress of coordinating care across separate, independent clinics.
Our consultant pediatrician oversees the diagnostic assessment and management of common childhood illnesses and chronic conditions, from infancy through adolescence. Should your child require a highly specialized evaluation, our multidisciplinary team collaborates internally to ensure seamless, unified care.
When should you contact a pediatrician?
Many parents are unsure when their own doctor is enough and when it makes sense to seek a pediatric specialist. As a rule of thumb, it is relevant to contact a pediatrician when the child's symptoms are recurring, difficult to explain, or do not respond to treatment from their own doctor — or when you as parents want a thorough professional assessment and clarification.
This applies, for example, to repeated stomach pain, persistent cough, suspected allergies or asthma, problems with sleep, growth or urination, as well as rashes and skin changes that do not improve over time.
What can we treat in children?
Below you will find an overview of the conditions we investigate and treat in children and adolescents at Charlottenlund Private Hospital.
Pediatrics — childhood diseases
Our pediatric department diagnoses and treats a comprehensive range of medical conditions in children and adolescents. Among the most frequent cases we manage are:
- Respiratory & Allergic Conditions: Asthma, environmental allergies, hay fever, food allergies, and chronic hives (urticaria).
- Gastrointestinal Concerns: Chronic abdominal pain, persistent constipation, infant reflux, and colic.
- Developmental & Urological Issues: Nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) and growth or developmental delays.
We also offer specialized, in-depth evaluations for children experiencing recurrent headaches. Because chronic headaches can stem from a wide array of underlying factors, parents often find them difficult to properly diagnose and manage through general practitioners alone.
Childhood Asthma & Co-occurring Allergies
Asthma remains the most prevalent chronic condition in pediatric medicine. According to national guidelines from the Danish Paediatric Society, asthma affects approximately 8–10% of school-aged children. While an even larger percentage of toddlers experience asthmatic symptoms, many will ultimately outgrow them.
Asthma and allergies are deeply interconnected; roughly two out of three school-aged children diagnosed with asthma also suffer from concurrent hay fever.
Pediatric Allergic Diseases
Allergic conditions are remarkably common throughout childhood. Data from the Danish Paediatric Society indicates that roughly 15–25% of children suffer from allergic hay fever (allergic rhinoconjunctivitis). Furthermore, 6–8% of children develop specific food allergies within the first few years of life—though the vast majority eventually outgrow early sensitivities to milk and eggs.
Examination of your child with us
A consultation with our pediatrician always starts with a thorough conversation about the child's medical history, symptoms, and daily life. We take the time to listen to both the child and the parents and adapt the examination to the child's age and situation.
Depending on what we find, we at the hospital can offer blood tests, lung function tests, allergy testing with skin prick tests and specific IgE, as well as X-rays, ultrasounds and MRI scans. All examinations take place at one address and are coordinated by the doctor who has seen the child, so that you as parents do not have to coordinate across departments.
The hospital is located in Charlottenlund north of Copenhagen and is easily accessible from all over North Zealand and Copenhagen.
Does my child need a referral?
It is not a requirement to have a referral from your own doctor to book an appointment with us. Many parents contact us directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a pediatrician?
A pediatrician is a doctor who specializes in pediatrics — childhood diseases. The specialty covers diseases and conditions from infancy up to 18 years of age and includes everything from allergies and asthma to gastrointestinal problems, growth disorders and bedwetting.
Does my child need a referral to see a pediatrician at a private hospital?
It is not a requirement to have a referral from your GP to book an appointment with us. Many parents contact us directly as private patients. If your child has health insurance, please be aware that many insurance companies require a referral from their own doctor as a condition for covering the treatment. We therefore recommend that you check your insurance conditions before booking an appointment.
From what age can my child come to see your pediatrician?
We see children from infancy to 18 years of age.
Can you test my child for allergies?
Yes. We offer allergy testing with skin prick testing and specific IgE blood testing. It is always an individual medical assessment which type of testing is relevant for your child, and whether both or only one of them is needed.
What is the difference between a pediatrician and a general practitioner?
A general practitioner has broad knowledge of all age groups and illnesses. A pediatrician is specially trained in children's illnesses, growth and development and has deeper professional insight into conditions that primarily affect children.
My child has recurring stomach pain — what can you do?
We will thoroughly assess the cause, which can range from functional abdominal pain to constipation, reflux, celiac disease or other conditions. We will take the necessary tests and create a treatment plan in consultation with you as parents.
When should you seek medical attention for a child with a fever?
Fever in children is most often a sign that the immune system is working and typically resolves on its own. The most important thing is not the temperature itself, but the child's general condition — a child who is active, drinking and reacting normally is usually doing well despite the fever.
Can you help with bedwetting in older children?
Yes. Bedwetting — nocturnal enuresis — is a common problem in school-age children and has effective treatment options. We investigate the cause and offer treatment adapted to the child's age and situation.
Do you also treat children with skin problems such as eczema?
Yes. Childhood eczema is treated by our dermatologists. This is especially relevant when eczema occurs together with allergies or asthma, as these conditions are often related.
Can my child have surgery at your clinic?
Yes. We operate on children within both ear, nose and throat and pediatric surgery. Within ENT, we offer, among other things, ear drains, tonsils, polyps and tongue ties. Within pediatric surgery, we treat conditions such as foreskin narrowing, testicular retention, hydrocele and urination problems.
