CRM study for sleep apnea
Examination for sleep apnea
If you suspect that you have sleep apnea, it may be a good idea to have it examined and possibly treated.
Sleep recording test
To determine whether or not you have sleep apnea, you will usually be asked to sleep with a CRM (Cardio Respiratory Monitoring) at home for one night. As you can see in the picture (source: Löwenstein), the monitor itself is attached to an elastic belt around your chest and stomach. You have an oxygen meter on your finger or earlobe. The machine measures oxygen saturation and records your breathing patterns, snoring and body position while you sleep. It measures your breathing through a so-called “oxygen mask” that is attached to your nose.
Analysis of your data and diagnosis
After you complete the test at home, one of our sleep specialists will analyze your study. They can then determine whether you have sleep apnea and assess the severity of the condition.
Your treatment plan
Once a diagnosis is made, the sleep specialist will develop a treatment plan based on your individual needs. Treatment may include using a CPAP machine that you sleep with to help you breathe freely during the night. It may also include changes in sleep position, wearing a mouth guard, lifestyle changes such as weight loss, or in some cases, surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
If I am referred from the public service...
Charlottenlund Private Hospital carries out assessment and treatment of patients with sleep apnea from the Capital Region through a non-bid agreement.
This means that if your own doctor or your specialist has referred you for an evaluation for sleep apnea, you will in some cases be referred to Charlottenlund Private Hospital.
You do not have to do anything active yourself, but will receive an invitation to our brand new and beautiful sleep clinic in the middle of Charlottenlund, close to public transport and with plenty of free 2-hour parking spaces.
At your consultation, you will be given CRM equipment from Löwenstein which you must take home, install (see the instruction video on the left) and sleep with for one night. The equipment must be returned the next day so that the doctors can review the results.
You will then be given an answer as to whether you have sleep apnea or not. If you do not have sleep apnea that requires treatment, you will receive advice and guidance for better sleep and then be discharged.
However, if the examination shows that you have sleep apnea, you will be called in for sleep apnea treatment - so-called CPAP treatment.
I want an examination but I haven't been referred...
If you want to be tested for sleep apnea, this can be done in many different ways.
If you live nearby, we recommend that you book an appointment with one of the specialists at Charlottenlund Private Hospital who is ready to perform a full ear, nose and throat examination and sleep study. This is often covered by your private health insurance - however, you should always seek approval from your insurance before contacting us.
If you live far from Charlottenlund Private Hospital, you can still be examined by our specialists. In that case, you have the option of being sent a so-called Watch-Pat that can confirm or rule out the suspicion of sleep apnea.

I am already being treated with CPAP and would like to continue with you...
The sleep clinic at Charlottenlund Private Hospital has in a short time achieved a great reputation and recognition among patients and users. We therefore have many patients who want to move their treatment from the place where they are currently being treated to Charlottenlund Private Hospital.
If you wish to move your CPAP treatment from another location to Charlottenlund Private Hospital, we recommend that you contact the Capital Region of Denmark and request to have your course transferred to us.
Fact box about obstructive sleep apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is a condition in which the airway becomes blocked during sleep, leading to repeated pauses in breathing. This causes disrupted sleep and symptoms such as snoring, choking sensations, and daytime fatigue. The condition is often caused by obesity, age, or anatomical factors and can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Treatment includes lifestyle changes, CPAP therapy, or in some cases, a mouth guard or surgery.
