Insomnia, also known as sleeplessness, is a common sleep disorder that affects many people worldwide. It is characterized by difficulty falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep, or waking up earlier than desired and unable to fall back asleep. Insomnia can vary in intensity and duration and can be categorized as either acute or chronic.

Causes of insomnia
- Irregular bedtimes or a changing work schedule can affect sleep rhythms.
- Using electronics before bed, uncomfortable sleeping environments, and caffeine or alcohol can all contribute to insomnia.
- Daily worries and stressful events can disrupt sleep
- Chronic pain, asthma, allergies, and other medical conditions can lead to sleep problems.
Treatment of insomnia
- Maintain a regular sleep schedule
- Create a calm and comfortable sleeping environment
- Limit your intake of caffeine, alcohol, and large meals, especially in the evening.
- Incorporate relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing
- Try cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-I): CBT-I is an effective therapy that helps change thought patterns and behaviors that negatively affect sleep.
