Loose ear stones BPPV

The symptoms of loose ear crystals (BPPV) are distinct from other forms of dizziness.

These vertigo attacks are characterized by a sudden, intense spinning sensation—yet they do not occur completely out of the blue. Instead, they are strictly triggered by specific head movements (such as turning over in bed, looking up, or bending down).

If you keep your head completely still, the sensation resolves. However, the moment the tiny crystals shift within the semicircular canals of your inner ear, they trigger a brief but severe episode of vertigo. This spinning sensation typically lasts for 10 to 20 seconds before quickly subsiding.

If you experience signs of loose ear stones (see above), you should see a specialist as soon as possible. It is also worth noting that the sooner you seek and receive professional treatment - the easier it is often to treat and the faster you will recover completely.

As soon as the specialist has determined which part of your balance organ is affected by loose ear stones, treatment will be carried out immediately.

For ear stones in the posterior and anterior canals, the treatment is typically the Epley maneuver or the Semont maneuver.

At the ear stones in the horizontal arches, a so-called BBQ roll will be performed.

Although the treatments themselves are quite simple, it is extremely important that before the treatment is carried out, it is determined exactly which arch is involved.

Only in this way will the specialist and the patient know which arch needs to be treated again if the first treatment does not have full effect - and thereby we ensure that you receive the right treatment.

This is solely because it is often difficult to perform the correct treatment exactly right - and therefore you risk simply clouding the picture, making it more difficult for the specialist to make the correct diagnosis and provide the right treatment.

The so-called TRV chair can in some cases be a good treatment for stuck ear stones, or if a patient has serious neck problems or is so overweight that he or she cannot get up and lie on a regular examination table (typically with a BMI >50).

By far the most common, however, are loose ear stones (and not stuck ear stones), which are easily treated without a TRV chair.
