Complete removal of the tonsils is typically carried out due to repeated infections in the tonsils with streptococcal bacteria, as well as problems in the form of blockage in the tonsils and bad breath. The procedure is not performed on children under 20 kg.
Partial removal of the tonsils is offered if the tonsils are so large that the patient has difficulty swallowing and eating and has sleep apnea, i.e. that the patient takes breaks in breathing at night. The procedure entails considerably less pain and risks than the total removal of the tonsils and is therefore performed on children as young as two years of age.
Removal of polyps is often carried out in connection with the placement of a drain in the eardrum, as the polyps can be the cause of fluid entering the middle ear and thus the reason why a drain must be placed. Can also be done independently, in children who do not breathe properly through the nose due to the polyps, which can lead to snoring, eating problems (as the child cannot breathe through the nose while eating) and incorrect growth of the facial bones. Only performed on children over two years of age.
Charlottenlund Private Hospital offers surgery of the thyroid gland (glandula thyreoidea). We carry out, among other things, removal of benign nodules (so-called adenomas). The operations are only carried out by specialists in throat surgery who on a daily basis work as throat surgeons in public hospitals.
Charlottenlund Private Hospital offers the removal of cysts on the neck. The operations are only carried out by a senior doctor, PhD. Irene Wessel.
Irene works on a daily basis as a senior physician and neck surgeon at Rigshospitalet where, as responsible for the entire head and neck surgery pillar, she carries out many of the large and extremely complicated cancer operations that are carried out on a daily basis at Rigshospitalet.
We are proud to be able to offer operations by one of the most skilled throat surgeons in Denmark.
